you notice someone like me

You Found Me by The Fray

I found God on the corner of 1st and Amistad
Where the West was all but won
All alone, smoking his last cigarette
I said, "Where've you been?" He said, "Ask anything."

Where were you, when everything was falling apart.
All my days were spent by the telephone that never rang
And all I needed was a call that never came
To the corner of 1st and Amistad

Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me
Lying on the floor, surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me.

But in the end everyone ends up alone
Losing her, the only one who's ever known
Who I am, who I'm not and who I wanna be
No way to know how long she will be next to me

The early morning, the city breaks
And I've been calling for years and years and years
And you never left me no messages
You never sent me no letters
You got some kind of nerve taking all I want

Why'd you have to wait, to find me, to find me?

Ok, so besides the fact that some bits of this song's lyrics are actually mocking God, especially the "smoking his last cigarette" bit, I find it a really honest song. This isn't a new song, no. But the more I listen to it, the more I discover about the hidden meanings of the lyrics of this song.

How often are we REALLY honest with God? God doesn't need us to be honest to know what's going on, but He'd love it if we were honest. Even if angry-honest, like this song shows. The writer of these lyrics was probably thinking "God always comes too late, He doesn't help us when we really need Him" but when I hear the words "You found me", I just get more and more in awe of Him. Because He does just what the lyrics says He does. He finds us. We don't find Him. We might think it's "too late", but God always has perfect timing and is NEVER "too late". Sadly, not many people understand that.

But all in all, I really really admire how the writer of these lyrics seem to be so honest. His perception of God may not be the way I personally know God. But somehow his perception has helped him to be a lot more honest with God than I've ever been.

Sure, I go to God with my problems or when I'm in my lowest moments, when no one's looking. And sure, I go to Him to thank Him for good things, but I realised I don't go to Him when I'm angry. Maybe thinking that I shouldn't be angry at God-which I shouldn't, but also forgetting that He understands my emotions, and definitely forgetting that by being honest with Him about my anger-be it towards Him or just anger in general-I'm letting Him deal with me instead of just me deal with me.

Yes, Audrey's trying to be a lot less angry and a lot less-easily-angered than she already is now.

A little bit is never enough.
